Interview Questions With Winn Publications
Winn Publications: How did your journey as an author begin?
I discovered I had a love for writing in the fourth grade. I was the only fourth grader who scored a perfect score on the writing portion of the state exam. When I was 12 I started writing my first book, but I was discouraged after it got destroyed. After being pushed by my family and friends to publish my book I decided to be an author.
Winn Publications:Was it something you always wanted to pursue?
No at first. I was just writing for fun in the beginning. It was a hobby.
Winn Publications: Who or what motivated you to write?
My aunt Anita. She always told me to keep a journal and write all time. Plus I was fascinated with how amazing she was with her writing.
Winn Publications: Have you published your writings into a book? If so, where can we find it/them?
My debut novel is titled Mental Beloved. The Ebook version is currently available for preorder on Amazon. The print version and Ebook will be released June 11.
Winn Publications: How was the publishing process?
It was harder than writing. I was actually offered a publishing offer, but I wanted complete control of this book because of everything I encountered while working on it.
Winn Publications: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
The biggest challenge I have faced is trying to increase my social media platform. Promoting and marketing has been a struggle because I am a shy and reserved person, so it’s hard for me to come out of my comfort zone.
Winn Publications: Have you written anything outside of fiction/nonfiction?
Yes. I write poetry and I have written a few scripts for skits.
Winn Publications: Do you have a tip that you can offer your peers (poets and writers worldwide)?
Write every day and never listen to the people who doubt you.
Winn Publications: Are you currently working on any new projects? If so when can we expect them to be released?
I am working on a dystopian novel that takes place in the projects. I am hoping to have it finished by next year. I am also co-authoring with someone on a novel and that’s to be expected next week as well.
Winn Publications: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself with my own counseling practice with several published novels and a couple of poetry books.
Winn Publications: What does being an author mean to you?
Being an author means giving people an escape from their reality through reading.
Winn Publications: What’s your favorite quote and who’s it by?
“If there is a book you want to read that hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it”. Toni Morrison
Winn Publications: If you could co-author with anyone – dead or alive- who would it be and why?
Toni Morrison or Sistah Souljah. I think Toni Morrison is one of the greatest writers to have ever lived and Sistah Souljah made me fall in love with urban street literature.
