Q and A with Publisher Arilia Winn
Arilia : How did your journey as an author begin?
Marcus: My journey as an author began back around middle school. I was sheltered and having little to no friends, kept me in a space where I needed to release my thoughts from what I was seeing with family and observing classmates.
Arilia : Was it something you always wanted to pursue?
At first no, I wanted to be a computer programmer, but my creative juices, mentally, grew as time went on. I love it now.
Arilia: who or what motivated you to write?
My mom motivated me to write for the reason I had to do certain things a certain way. This gave me a release to express myself, in my own words without being held down in a sense.
Arilia: Have you published your writings into a book? If so, where can we find it/them?
I have 2 books: Changes in His Veins and Love Under Fault Lines. You can find them at: www.marcusjking.com and anywhere books are sold.
Arilia: How was the publishing process?
Being that I am self-published and a techy person, I use Barnes and Noble and Amazon. It takes time and energy to create the format and design of the book.
Arilia: Are you self-published?
Yes!
Arilia: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
The biggest challenge is marketing as a self-published author. It is hard to work a day job, while trying to promote your book for a new reader to read.
Arilia: Have you written anything outside of fiction/nonfiction?
I am a fiction only writer and I write poetry.
Arilia: Do you have a tip that you can offer your peers (poets and writers worldwide)?
My best tip for upcoming writers, is to please write and write some more; Own your craft and don’t stop.
Arilia: Are you currently working on any new projects? If so when can we expect them to be released?
I am working on my third installment, Bruised by Your Tears. Date is to be determined sometime later this year.
Arilia: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself on tours for my work and collaborating with other authors; Helping them be better. Having my own studio to make the books into movies.
Arilia: What does being an author mean to you?
Being a new age author means the gift of storytelling; having a voice that
isn’t heard quite yet. Giving drama a new meaning.
Arilia: what’s your favorite quote and who’s it by?
“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” Oprah Winfrey
Arilia: If you could co-author with anyone – dead or alive- who would it be and why?
I would have loved to work with/meet E. Lynn Harris. I feel his work, lives through me, and the intertangle of characters and situations.
